eCOGRA Continues to Educate Online Casinos
27 Jul 2006
eCOGRA, the independent standards authority for the online casinos industry held its second global training session in London, UK. Over 100 top online casinos and poker rooms will be reinforced in promoting responsible online gambling and will be further guided on how to practically use effective measures in online casinos to maintain eCOGRA standards for player protection.
The attendance of online casinos operators at this intensive two day training only goes to show the commitment of online casinos to resolving the problems regarding underage and problem gambling. This training, tailored for online casinos and poker rooms' managers, was managed by a team of specialists from the international Global Gambling Guidance Group (G4). A similar session was held last year for eCOGRA sealed sites in Cape Town, South Africa. This year's attendees learned how to identify problem gamblers using Brief Intervention Techniques (BIT), through homework and practical workshop sessions. Delegates of online gambling sites have also analyzed case history material and learned how to use BIT through e-mail and telephone conversations with players. Also examined in details was the impact problem gambling has on the players' families.
Andrew Beveridge, CEO of eCOGRA, commented that this training is part of an ongoing requirement for sealed online casinos and poker rooms. Beveridge said online casinos and online gaming are so popular, that it is critical for staff in online gambling sites to know how to keep their players safe. It is essential, he added, to the online casinos long term business goals and the overall good of the industry.
